TURK-7 programming increases |
|
On January 10th 2006, for the first time ever, Turkish Christian television programs began to be broadcast regularly via satellite by TURK-7, and we as the BCC were asked to partner with them in helping them to follow-up those who would respond to the programs.
Eleven months later, TURK-7 was able to move from broadcasting four hours per week to four hours per day. The broadcasts have been generally well received and there has been a small but steady stream of people contacting through email, phone and SMS. Here are some of the responses we have received… "I called my wife & family to come & watch, we were overjoyed & wept. This is an answer to our personal prayers." "We are so happy that TURK-7 has begun broadcasting… We as a people don't read a lot... TV is a wonderful way to explain the goodness of the Lord" - Viewer from Kars “Sema (not real name), a 30-year-old housewife living in central Turkey, eagerly sought spiritual truth: she went to Koran courses, and despite her Shiite (Alevi) background she also explored Sunni Islam. When she discovered contradictions, however, she started to investigate Christianity. In February she learnt about TURK-7, contacted us at the BCC office, and began receiving Christian literature and courses. When she read the New Testament, she liked it so much that she decided to change her ID-card to Christianity. After she had finished several courses, a co-worker in a nearby city visited her and explained the gospel of Jesus to her. She then professed faith in Jesus as her Lord and Saviour. Her family also showed some interest in Jesus, but Sema faces quite heavy opposition from those in her neighbourhood.” Stories like this show the importance of networking among Christian groups: This lady watched TV (one organisation), contacted the BCC (another organisation) and after doing some courses she was visited by a co-worker (from a local church) living in central Turkey.
